Spaceport America Making Progress
I’m quite delighted to have read that Sierra County, New Mexico has approved a 1/4 of 1 percent gross receipts tax increase to fund the building of Spaceport America. They’re working on getting all the other approvals they need to operate the spaceport, as well as a deal with Virgin Galactic.
There’s just something about seeing commercial space travel make progress that’s really exciting to me. I figure it comes of having a space-crazed father and reading quite a bit of science fiction.

That is pretty cool! Seems like most people have a desire to go into space at some point in their life. It would be quite a thing to have commercial space travel.

While I’m all in favor of a commercial space port, I think it should be built solely with commercial funding — you know, a business either trades you for your money or asks to you to help pay for a worthy cause. Wouldn’t it be great if taxpayer moneys were obtain through the same moral means instead of simply being taken from hard working people?

Perhaps, but this is likely to be a huge tax benefit to the area once it’s built. Visitors, whatever taxes there are on the spaceport/launches, that kind of thing. I fully expect the area to get its money back and then some.
