The Mysteries of Laundry

What is it about doing laundry that does strange things to clothing? I’m not just talking about red leaking into the load of whites, turning all random shades of pink, disappering socks and such. I’m talking about random changes in the clothing.

Such as my husband’s bathrobe.

I bought it for him as a gift, and it had been washed a few times. Not often; he doesn’t wear it all that often or for long when he does. No problems, no color leakage, etc.

Until about the fourth time I washed it. Cold water wash, not hot. Medium dryer heat. Just like every other time.

That bathrobe shrank big time on that fourth wash. I’m talking about losing a foot or so in length. Not exactly the kind of thing that could be missed.

So let’s stay off the classic color and missing socks. What odd things have happened when you’ve done laundry?

Once we took an apartment in London that had a washer-drier combo. On one occasion it turned my husband’s white underwear (but nothing else) a really dirty, disgusting grey-blue. We threw it out when we got back to the US and bought him all new stuff.
