Human Food Supply Contaminated Too
You’ve probably heard about the contamination of pet food by melamine and how a number of pets have died of it. It now appears that hogs were fed the same, and so the contamination has entered the human food supply. It’s enough to make one avoid pork.
The number of hogs is relatively small, perhaps 345 are involved in the problem. Better yet, the odds of human death from this is considered to be low.
But that doesn’t keep it from being disturbing. It was just that easy for a contaminent to make it into the food supply. Bad enough that it was so severe for so many pets. This is a case of sloppy protections for our food supply.
Hopefully this mistake will encourage greater quality control on all our food, whether produced here or brought in from abroad. The way this matter has spread indicates a greater need overall for this.
