Good Job, Tyra!
It just amazes me the standards people hold models to. Outrageously slender. The recent criticism of Tyra Banks for her weight gain really highlights the problem.
I do understand that some women are just naturally that thin, the way runway models have little choice about being if they want to work. I used to be that way too. But for most people it is tremendously unhealthy, and trying to achieve such a figure is dangerous for many girls and women. Their body structure simply won’t support it in a healthy manner.
Tyra? 5 foot 10 inches, 161 pounds. Anyone care to call that unhealthy? Anyone?
If you read up on these things, it’s easy to know that a lot of young girls try too hard for that model figure. Anorexia, bulemia and death are some of the hazards they face. It’s just not a pretty picture for many girls whose bodies don’t naturally go that slender.
Most men I know don’t like nothing but bones on a woman. A touch of fat adds curves and padding that is generally appreciated. Trust me on this one. As I said above, I used to be that kind of skinny, but one of my sisters who wasn’t got lots more attention. Said something so far as I’m concerned.
Frankly, I’d be delighted if the modeling industry made more of an effort to show a wider range of body types. I don’t just mean ultra thin models and plus side models. Let’s not forget inbetween. There are lots of really, really beautiful women out there with a wide range of body types.
