Free Virus!

This says so much about what people do and don’t know about computers. Either that or it says a lot about how curious people are.

A computer specialist named Didier Stevens put an ad up through Google AdWords offering a free virus to uninfected computers. People did actually click on the link. It was an experiment, of course, to see what people would do.

I have to admit though, if I had seen the ad I would have been tempted to click just to see what the trick was. I don’t know that I would have believed that I would really get infected, which of course people did not. And knowing that any problems would likely have been noticed by Google would have reassured me that it was a joke.

Then again, maybe I would have tried it on my husband’s computer rather than mine. Hmm….
