I was at Target the other day and realized that it’s Back to School season already. Seems amazing, yet it’s true. My daughter’s kindergarten starts in less than a month.

I do have to count myself lucky. It’s just kindergarten and we don’t have a huge shopping list that parents are required to get for the kids. They do take donations, though. Read the rest of this entry »

Have you ever wondered how to get the most for your money? Sometimes you can get extra perks for buying from the right folks. Some car dealers in my area, for example, give 3 months’ of gas with purchase. That’s not a bad little extra.

The trick is finding out who offers these perks. That is, of course, where ePERKS.com comes in. They have the information, and that’s how I found out about the dealers in my area offering perks like free gas. The deals go through the ePerks website.

The site overall is pretty good, although a FAQ would be nice. They do have a place where you can ask questions. Look under the Answers tab. Membership is free and there were a fair number of professionals in my area already offering perks.

Umm, yeah, don’t give me that look. I haven’t tried them! Certain Chinese villagers, on the other hand…

The report on this is on the Discovery Channel website. The villagers found a bunch of dinosaur bones, decided they were from flying dragons and had medicinal properties, and ground them up. They’ve been using them as medicine for at least two decades.

They do now know that they were dinosaur bones, so they’ve stopped that.

Who could blame them for wanting them to be dragon bones? I’d sure love to find dragon bones.

Just so long as there wasn’t a live dragon near anyhow. But maybe I’m just stuck in my own little fantasy world.

Sorry, I’m not having one. They are fun though, aren’t they? Perhaps you should consider the $1000 photo contest offered through weneedavacation.com. The prize goes toward renting a property through the weneedavacation.com site.

But they will also donate $5 to the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC), up to $1,000, for every photo entered into the contest. The contest ends September 3, 2007.

The focus is on Florida, and they specialize in Cape Cod vacation rental. At the right time of year, Florida is a great vacation spot. Sometimes you may have to cope with extremely hot and muggy weather, but there’s lots to do in Florida. Theme parks, of course, but also lots of beautiful beaches and warm water.

I’ll be the first to admit that $1000 towards a rental isn’t quite as much fun as cash, but talk about a great way to make a vacation in Florida more affordable. If it’s something you’re planning, this contest should be well worth entering.

I first noticed Webkinz a year or so ago at a Hallmark store. Just saw them in a store and had to laugh at the idea of having a toy combined with a virtual pet online. Had to admit for getting children’s hearts it was probably a brilliant move.

Apparently so. Webkinz are extremely popular right now. I’m grateful my oldest hasn’t heard of them yet. Each pet comes with a code so that you can log into the Webkinz site to care for your new virtual pet. And of course the site offers games and ways to earn virtual cash to buy things for your virtual pet.

What really strikes me as brilliant is that only the first year of Webkinz website membership is included in the purchase of the pet. After that you have to pay or adopt a new pet to extend your membership another year.

They’re clever in many ways. They retire pets often, so that there are always new ones for kids to want. Rather like how Beanie Babies went.

Webkinz can be bought at a variety of stores, such as Hallmark and drug stores, but Amazon also carries them. Even if you aren’t buying them for your kids it can be fun watching the craze.
