Old Gold Factory

Gold has been a popular material for a long time. And a recent discovery of a gold factory along the Nile has changed what archaologists think of the ancient kingdom of Kush.

The factory appears to have been in operation for about 400 years. Not many factories even now that can claim that.

It’s interesting seeing new perspectives of little known cultures come about. It’s so easy to forget that the Egyptian civilization was not the only one in that area at the time.

Time to Remodel the Kitchen?

Not going to do it here, although frankly my landlords did a lousy job. It looks nice some ways… granite countertops… but once you get into the details you realize them missed some important details.

Such as the backsplash behind the sink. No joke. When we moved in, it was just about a 1/2 inch gap of bare wood under the granite to the wall. Who forgets that?

Didn’t seal the granite. No finishing touches at all.

But of course we aren’t going to remodel; it’s not our house. We put in some silicone sealer to protect the wood behind the sink so that water can’t sit on it, but that was it. Hopefully someday they’ll give it a backsplash.

But this makes seeing sites that offer tile and so forth for remodeling kitchens kind of fun. And of course, checking out the occasional kitchen backsplash.

I like the selection that site has. I’m particularly fond of some of the marble designs they have. Quite lovely. The kind of site I’m sure I could get into trouble at if I were remodeling.

LOLTrek

Just found this and knew it was a must-share. Star Trek’s The Trouble with Tribbles done in lolcat style. Beautifully done. That is, if you enjoy the lolcat style.

If you aren’t familiar with the term lolcats, don’t worry. I’d seen them around but not heard the name before. They’re the pictures of cats with humorous captions and generally mangled English. I find them quite entertaining, and I stay away from sites collecting them as much as possible to avoid losing too much time to reading them.

Supplies for Serious Dog Care

I love dogs. Can’t have one where I live, but that’s okay. We’ll get one someday.

Of course, with every dog comes grooming needs, at the very least baths and quite probably nail trimming. Some people do it themselves, but others prefer to pay professionals. This is especially true if the dog’s fur needs trimming. That’s a decidely difficult task without experience or the right tools.

If your run a dog grooming shop or if you’re bold enough to want to do it on your own, sites such as ShowDogStore have some great equipment, such as metro dog dryers.

The selection looks pretty good. The right choice can depend on how you like to work with the dog, I’m sure. I especially liked the idea of the cage fan, as I know some people use their cages as a safe place for their dog to just be left alone or to calm down. Always nice to provide for the dog’s comfort.

Hacking Up Harry Potter

A hacker has claimed to have hacked a computer at Bloomsbury Publishing Plc and downloaded a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Frankly, I don’t think most fans, even if they read the spoilers he claims to have posted, would find the book “useless and boring”. If that were likely to be a problem, no one would ever read a book twice. Yet many people do.

I’ll admit to being curious about how the story goes. However, reading spoilers isn’t my thing. Too much like searching the house for presents, making opening them later a letdown. So I’m going to pass on this moron with a yawn.

Really Ought to Move One of These Days

I live in California. Love it, love being near family, but the housing prices… ouch! Just really cannot afford a home here. I keep thinking we should move out of state so that we can afford a home.

I keep thinking that we should look at Arizona homes for sale or maybe Colorado.

I love looking through MLS listings and just thinking about the possibilities. And I like the search on the site I linked to up there. As a parent it’s just so nice to be able to take the schools into consideration… although I don’t know any Arizona schools yet. But an awful lot of homes that wouldn’t be that hard to afford with a decent job.

I don’t expect to be moving out there anytime soon. Have to figure out where we’d really want to live, then employment for my husband. Since I work online it’s no big deal for me.
