Curse You, DHMO!

Our world has been contaminated. Dihydrogen Monoxide is in just about everything. And no one will do anything about it!

Dihydrogen Monoxide is dangerous when abused. Many people die annually from accidental inhalation. I visited DHMO.org to learn more about the dangers.

Here are some of the facts about Dihydrogen Monoxide, as listed on their website: Read the rest of this entry »

Taking Life a Little Less Seriously

Sometimes life gets just a little crazy. And that’s the time when you need to take a step back and take things less seriously.

Play a little. Take a day where you don’t have such high expectations of yourself. Be spontaneous. Go play in the park, hike to a quiet place, watch a sunset or just do your own thing.

What’s causing the stress? Is it seasonal or is it a long term issue? What, if anything can you do about it? Maybe you need a little more help with the problem. Maybe you can take a break and come back to it refreshed.

But cutting back on stress doesn’t have to mean taking a lot of time out of your day. Just a few small changes can help. Silliness is optional. Read the rest of this entry »

Aw Geez… Now What was That Name?

I’m terrible with names. Really and truly awful. There have been people I’ve known for months before really getting the hang of their names. It’s just me.

But every here and there I start thinking about working on my memory. Don’t know how much I can do about it, since some of the problem is that I’m really bad at recognizing people too.

However, I’ve gone ahead and signed up for a free ecourse on improving my memory. If I like it, you’ll hear about it. Well, at least if I remember to mention it, Pretty good test I suppose.

Diamond Trouble in the Amazon

I was just reading about the troubles a diamond mine is giving a tribe in the Amazon.

Yeah, sure, we’d all love to have that kind of trouble, right? Well, not if you’re a tribal culture that values its way of life and outsiders keep coming in with drugs, alcohol and crime. Not exactly a good time for the natives.

The natives have actually quit mining the diamonds, although few believe them. They have a negative image in the local media in their area as bloodthirsty savages. Yes, they have killed some illegal miners, so it’s not entirely undeserved, yet nothing else has served to protect their land. It’s a nasty situation all around.

This is one of those areas where a style of life is disappearing, and in all honesty I doubt much can be done for it. I had a professor in college who once commented that he didn’t much care for globalization, but it’s like trying to stop the tide. I think this is one of those situations too.

Watching the Contenders Line Up

Hoo boy, here we go again! Does anyone really care all that much who wants to be a Presidential nominee for the next election yet?

Honestly, this early in the game I watch the entire thing with a sense of amusement. John Edwards running for the Democratic nomination already. Others to follow when they get around to it and think the moment is right.

I have very little interest in who from either party plans on running right now. It’s a long time until we even have to worry about which nominees will actually run, and who knows what the situation will be at that point? Will the Iraq war be in better or worse shape? Will we have invaded anyplace else? How will relations with countries like North Korea or Iran be? Read the rest of this entry »

Eek! The Chatter Stopped!

That’s what happens when the holidays hit! Suddenly I’m limiting my time online and not blabbing away like mad. How dare I have a life!

Christmas went well and I’m really looking forward to New Years. Getting together with family for a munch and talk and play all evening kind of event. No formal meal time; you eat when you’re hungry and do what you want. It was my favorite kind of New Years at my grandparents when I was a kid and it’s nice seeing it come back to life.
